The Womens Land Army In Cornwall

‘The Land Army was excluded from marching in the Remembrance Day Parade at the Cenotaph until 2000, when it was included – to march at the back.  Land Girls received no gratuities at the end of the war – and on disbandment, they returned their uniforms and received no civvy clothes and precious little thanks.  They were awarded no service medals, as were the other three women’s services, yet all the recruiotment service posters showed the FOUR women’s services, ATS, WRENS, WAAFS and the WLA, marching shoulder to shoulder under the flag, telling us that our country needed us.’
