The Way Of Raku
The Way Of Raku
Here is the story of the Zen art of raku, rendered in the most personal terms by an artists solely practicing within this field of ceramics. The calm spirit, the naturalness, the essential beauty and strength of pottery made with raku techniques is explained simply in both philosophy and practice.
The author has culled skills and sympathies from raku practitioners in many lands, and brought them to bear on her own art. These are shared with the reader in honest and refreshing ways, impressive too for the fact that this book has been written in English, her second language. Now living and working in Cornwall, at Borah Studio, Lamorna, Christa-Maria Herrmann takes sustenance and inspiration from landscapes and seascapes surrounding her. From these she draws a natural and spiritual standard, which she then translates to her work. All of the studio pottery illustrated in this book is the work of the author.
