A Passion For Nature

£13.00

Victorian botanist, social historian and educator Charles Alexander Johns (1811-1874) is best know for the classic guide Flowers Of The Field.  Celebrated in his lifetime by readers of all ages for his books on British plants, trees, birds, rock formations and rambles in the country-side, this gentleman-naturalist has been all but forgotten – until now.  Based largely in Cornwall, where Johns spent most of his life, this richly detailed study includes his extraordinary circle of family members, friends and colleagues – all talented artists and writers in their own right, many of them women who achievements went unrecognised in their lifetimes.  On paper and canvas, with pen and paintbrush, all shared a life-long passion for expressing the delicate beauty and timeless wonders of the natural world.
