OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH
KATIE BUNNELL & ARTS CENTRE, PENRYN
ON ‘WOMEN OF CORNWALL’ ARTS PROJECT
Our womenincornwall.org archive team, here at The Hypatia Trust, is delighted to partner on this project given a shared mission to recognise women’s achievements in Cornwall.
‘Women of Cornwall’ is an Art Centre Penryn project in collaboration with ceramic artist Katie Bunnell, to create a collection of 50 plates highlighting and celebrating significant women of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The plates will become a permanent collection at Art Centre Penryn.
The first stage of the project is to identify potential women to include in the collection, and everyone is invited to contribute nominations of women who have made meaningful contributions to the region in a broad a range of areas. They could be from the worlds of:
visual arts • sciences • engineering • literature • environment • farming • fishing • health • sport • social care • community & voluntary action • maritime • hospitality • education and learning • performing arts • business and enterprise • media and communications • inspirational leadership in any sector • politics •
No achievement or impact is too small for a woman to be nominated. Please participate and nominate a woman you think should be more widely acknowledged.
THE FINAL SELECTION: 50 REMARKABLE WOMEN
The final seelection is likely to include women who are alive today, from history and maybe even mythical. Their Cornishness may be fluid, but their achievements will have a special connection with this unique county.
Arriving at a final list of 50 won’t be easy so an advisory group has been created to help capture a diverse and inspirational group of women.
The selected women will have their portrait commissioned on a porcelain plate by a recognised artist as part of a permanent collection for the Art Centre Penryn.
