Handbags are complicated, with rich histories. They’re extensions of the body, allowing women to take up more space but also constricting us because in holding a handbag arm movement is constrained.

On Thursday 8 Oct Professor Meredith Jones delves into the memories, desires and freedoms associated with handbags:

FRI 9 OCT: As a companion to Professor Meredith Jones’ talk, she will host a writing workshop in which you will be invited to unlock the stories of handbags you have known—your own or those of others.

Feel free to bring a handbag or photos of people holding them etc. to the session to use as inspiration. You will leave the workshop with a piece of writing (fiction or nonfiction) that will be rich and meaningful and ready for sharing.
