Sarah is an artist and printmaker living in Penzance. Her paintings and bold prints often portray strong females inspired by her sea-swimming friends. Since starting the gallery three years ago, her work has found homes in the US, Canada, Germany, South America, India, China and Singapore to name a few.

Sarah has just been chosen to design 18 flags for Penzance Promenade this year! We can expect colourful images celebrating the sea life around Mounts Bay.

“Sharon Blackie, ‘Hagitude’; As older women we can often feel invisible. But in fact we hold remarkable power in what we’ve experienced, seen, done and thought. Our voice can be influential and a force for good if we think it is and if we allow it to be. So many women feel lost in mid and later life and we need to support women to regain their self-belief, importance and strength. Our world needs us!”

Three boxes containing the working papers of Dr Melissa Hardie-Budden, who died on 5th July 2022, will become part of the Elizabeth Treffry collection.

Ann Dinsdale, the curator of the Brontë Parsonage Museum at Haworth, and Professor Patsy Stoneman, have been informed that these papers are available. It’s important that future researchers are able to find them, and hopefully the Brontë Society will spread the word.

of a Human Swan

To investigate the reasons behind the Bewick swan population's shocking decline, female environmentalist Sacha Dench takes to the skies in a paramotor to follow the flock on its migratory journey, over 7,000 kilometres, and 11 countries, from Russia to England, across wetlands, tundra and industrial landscapes, where she encounters local people just as passionate about saving and protecting the swans. Narrated by Sophie Okonedo.

Join us for an in-person evening of conversation and film with Sacha, known as the 'Human Swan' for having undertaken this astonishing journey and having remarkable encounters with people along the way. This story is one of astonishing bravery and marvellous adventure. It is a story of hope for our planet that will touch even hardened hearts.

A new book traces the “biography” of Geoffrey Chaucer’s most enduring character and her impact on the course of English literature. The author, Marion Turner, is a professor of English at the University of Oxford.
