Fiona Wotton

Congratulations to our Woman of the Month for August, Fiona Wotton.

Fiona is a strategist, researcher, creative producer - and is Chief Executive of the Creative Kernow Group, responsible for the development of the four companies in the group. Prior to this she was a member of the senior management team at the charity - founding and running Cornwall 365, the cultural destination programme and popular What's On events.

Fiona's PhD explored the sustainability of creative communities using Complex Systems theory. She is a Fellow of the RSA and the Clore Leadership Programme. 

We asked Fiona which women inspire her and why:

“The women who inspire me are the mothers and care givers who cheerfully pack more and more into each day to keep their families and communities happy and healthy whilst the world seems to continually conspire against them. There's plenty of them just in Pendeen where I live and millions the world over.”

Creative Kernow
celebrates 40 years

This year Creative Kernow celebrates 40 years of supporting the Cornish creative community, championing creativity as a force for positive change in Cornwall.

They have been an important part of the rich tapestry of Cornwall’s creative fabric providing invaluable support to thousands of artists, performers, makers and creatives since their inception in the early 1980s. Starting out as Cornwall Arts Centre Trust it was set up by arts activists to save the old City Hall in Truro from being sold for a supermarket site.

Looking forward they have exciting developments afoot including the launch of the Cornwall365 app later this year, and the exciting rebirth of studios and new landscaping plans at Krowji. Love Leans over the Table: A Poetry Reading with Rosie Jackson

Nationally acclaimed poet Rosie Jackson will read from her latest collection,
‘Love Leans over the Table’.

Poems that share spiritual struggles and epiphanies, both her own and those of well-known mystics including John Donne, George Fox, Simone Weil, Hildegard of Bingen, Medieval anchorites, Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe.

Have you ever wished you could knit, sew, embroider, quilt, darn or learn any of those practical crafts that others seem able to do? We gather highly skilled crafters who love to share their skills with keen learners.

The Craft Exchange is taking a break over the summer and will return in September, so don’t forget to add the date to your diaries if this speaks to you.

If you’ve not joined a session before please reach out to Maggi Livingstone, via maggi@hypatia-trust.org.uk, to book your place - either as an expert crafter or new skill learner.

The session runs from 1.30pm - 3pm, and will continue on a monthly basis.
